GA: The Tiaoyutai Islands Dispute
Dear Honorable Participants,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to National Youth Summit 2013’s MUN conference. My name is Yu-Chi Chang and I am so thrilled to serve as your chair for what is sure to be an exciting conference of debate and international relations. I am a junior at Taipei First Girls High School. This will be my sixth MUN conference and my first as a chair. I hope that you are all ready to enjoy an amazing and unique conference.
Two years ago, I did not know much about MUN. I still remembered how a senior at school encouraged me to fill out the MUN application. This became one of the best choices I have ever made. I have always been interested in international affairs and MUN has provided a constructive outlet through which I can study and discuss with others. It has broadened my view and led me on an incredible journey, which I could not have imagined.
The dispute over the Senkaku/ Diaoyu Islands has grown so intense since 2012. Each government claims their sovereignty rights over these small islands on East China Sea. I wish to see delegates tackle this issue through solid and fruitful debate. I would also like to see delegates collaborate with others and bring out satisfying resolutions.
Don’t miss out on anything! NYS 2013 only happens once in a lifetime. I am very excited to be able to meeting you in February 2013. Be sure to prepare yourself for intense debate, crazy nights, and an amazingly fun time.
If you have any questions or concerns about our committee or MUN in general, please don’t hesitate to contact me before the conference.
Sincerely,
Yu-Chi Chang (Class of 2014)
